Meet Dr. sheela zerilli

In 2002 I completed my undergraduate degree in business administration at University of New Hampshire.

Then went on for my doctorate of physical therapy at UMass Lowell, graduating in 2009.

Up to this point I have 15 years of outpatient orthopedic experience including post-op care, acute injuries as well as chronic conditions.

From posture work to total joint replacements to post partum women's health, I feel comfortable addressing all orthopedic concerns.

Credentials include DPT, PCES (post partum corrective exercise specialist), dry needling certified, Rock Tape and Rock Blade certified.

DRY NEEDLING
I think of dry needling as an extension of my hands in terms of loosening soft tissue restriction. We have lots of layers of soft tissue including fascia, muscles and tendons which can all be a source of pain and tightness. By loosening these layers at a deeper level, it improves the ability of those muscles and tendons to work as they normally should. It's a great intervention as part of a bigger treatment plan which would make stretching and strengthening exercises more efficient and effective.

Patients are finding that the needling process is very comfortable and they are surprised how quickly it can make a positive impact on their pain and movement. The process takes about 30 minutes for the hands on assessment and placement of the needles. It's a great add-on to other hands on work to promote healing and reduce tightness. The effects of the needling sessions are cumulative with the end goal being less pain and more efficient movement.
